Accessible Cribbage: Making Game Night Work for Everyone

At SANDL Electronics, we believe no one should have to stop playing a game they love just because of mobility or dexterity challenges. That's why we created our LED cribbage board to be easier to use, see, and enjoy — especially for people with arthritis, cerebral palsy, ALS, or limited fine motor control.

Why Regular Cribbage Boards Can Be a Problem

For many players, small pegs and manual scoring can turn cribbage into more work than fun.

  • Pegs can be tricky to handle if your grip isn’t strong
  • Keeping track of points visually can be hard in dim light
  • Relying on someone else to move pegs can feel frustrating

These small details add up and sometimes cause players to stop playing altogether.

How We Designed Our LED Board Differently

We wanted to keep cribbage the same game it’s always been, but make it more accessible for everyone.

  • Here’s what makes the difference:
  • A bright LED score display that’s easy to see, even across the table
  • Responsive buttons to that don’t need precise finger movement

A 3.5mm input for adaptive switches, like big button switches or foot pedals, so players can keep score or start the next round without needing to grip small parts

The board feels familiar, but removes the parts that get in the way for many older players or people with disabilities.

Real Stories from Families and Players

We’ve heard from families who were able to bring cribbage back into regular game nights:

"My dad hadn’t played in years because of arthritis in his hands. After we set up the board, he could finally keep score by himself again. Now we play almost every weekend."

"My mom has pretty bad tremors, so turning pages or moving small pegs is tough. We set her up with a big button plugged into the LED cribbage board, and now she can still play right along with us. It keeps her part of the game instead of watching from the side."

"I have limited mobility in my right hand from a stroke, the electronic crib board lets me tap to score without needing to grip tiny pegs. It might sound simple, but it really brought cribbage back into my life."

These moments remind us why inclusive design matters.

Getting Set Up

All you need is an adaptive switch that uses a standard 3.5mm plug. Plug it into the port on the board, and it’s ready to go.

Play Without Barriers

The heart of cribbage is time together, a bit of strategy, and friendly competition. We designed this board so more people can enjoy that again, on their own terms.
